License Plate Anonymiser
Upload a street or vehicle photo and every detected license plate is blurred automatically. A YOLOv8 detection model runs entirely in your browser.

How it works
- Detect. A YOLOv8s model finds every license plate in the image.
- Pad. Each box is enlarged by 15% on every side, so a slightly tight box cannot leave a plate edge readable.
- Blur. A Gaussian blur, as wide as the plate itself, is applied inside each box only. The rest of the image is untouched.
The confidence threshold starts at its lowest setting (0.05), so anything that might be a plate is blurred, including plates from countries the model saw little of during training. A missed plate is a privacy risk, while an extra blur is harmless. Raise the slider to remove unneeded blurs and see how confident the model is about each plate. Detections below 0.5 are marked review (green and amber boxes are shown on screen only, never in the download).

Limitations
- This is a prototype. Very small or distant plates (under about 40 pixels wide) are the most likely to be missed.
- Plates that are rotated, heavily covered (for example by a garland) or on the front of some motorbikes can also be missed; the training data contained few such cases.
- The low default threshold also blurs some regions that are not plates (for example lights, logos or signs). Raise the slider to remove them, and always check the result before publishing a photo.
- The first run downloads the model; later visits load it from the browser cache.
